The Pallet Company is committed to solutions that promote environmental sustainability. OurGreen Processing Management Initiatives focus on creating processes and practices within our business that minimise waste and have a positive outcome for the environment.
Our Green Management Initiatives:
Utilisation of wood, the world’s most renewable raw material. All our raw materials are obtained from 100% certified plantation pine forestry.
The Pallet Company ensures minimal waste is sent to landfill by:
Recycling. Steel strapping, plastic strapping, aerosol cans and cardboard packaging are all recycled. All timber wrap is reused.
Byproduct utilisation. Waste wood, including fillets and bearers are mulched. Wood off cuts sold for firewood, with sawdust and shavings sold for making particle board and animal bedding. Sawdust from our Napier site is used for making power in the national grid.
In 2012 we sent only 0.1% of product used in our production processes to landfill. We are set to reduce this further in 2013.
We are committed to lowering our carbon footprint.
The Pallet Company converted from Methyl Bromide Fumigation in early 2011 for environmental advantages. All our export products, and horticultural packaging is heat-treated in our Heat Chambers powered by natural gas. Our Napier Branch uses an eco dust extraction system and all our machinery is fitted with high efficiency electrical motors- all energy saving initiatives.
Our Green Management Initiatives include the utilisation of lower grades and byproducts from mills. We process Carter Holt Harvey’s (CHH) downfall Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) for use in a range of products, including, bed slat material, kiln fillets, and bearers for master packs.
In 2013 The Pallet Company is sponsoring the Westpac Business Award for Sustainability and Social Responsibility. Supporting local businesses in making smart choices for better waste management and raising awareness of the social importance for environmental sustainability is core to our company values. Our company constantly utilises innovative thinking in developing alternative processes to promote our Green Management Initiatives, and we understand that this is an on going journey.
